The story is set in 3 cities (Fiume, Vienna and Sydney) on 2 continents.
It is a historical novel which covers the significant events of European history in the 20th century. At the outbreak of WW2 the heroine finds herself starting a new life in Australia and the novel looks at a range of experiences of immigrants who settled there before and after WW2.
The novel, through Beatrice and her life, struggles with the issues of forgiveness and love, war and its victims, death, sorrow, separation, ‘fate’ and whether it is possible to make any meaning out of those experiences.

The novel is a family saga of Monte and Garcia de Veres families situated in Italy and Spain. It is a story which tells how a little lie, about the background of an adopted orphan, causes a string of, new, bigger lies which significantly influence the life of each and every member of both families.
In 2002 the author obtained a scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to explore historical and cultural settings of Cadiz (Andalucia).
